True Value Retail LLC has an amazing opportunity for an Assistant Store Manager at our Palatine, IL store location.

The Assistant Manager Retail Store works with the Manager Retail Store on all aspects of running the store. They are responsible for demonstrating excellent customer service. They ensure a friendly, positive, professional, and safe work environment for all associates and customers.

Supporting the store manager, they are responsible for the training and development of all store associates. Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise areas. Oversee all cashiering functions including training, maintenance, audits, and reports. Assist to ensure receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise adheres to best practices and Standard Operating Procedures.

Responsibilities: (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).

· Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing and coaching Head Cashiers and Cashiers with the approval of the Store Manager

· Work to resolve problems with the customer utilizing empathy, sound judgment, and have store’s best interest taken into consideration

· Supervise the “general operations” of the entire store

· Responsible for opening and closing the store

· Assist with the implementation of Store Support Center programs

· Participate in weekly management staff meetings

· Communicate issues to the General Manager

· Implement new Standard Operating Procedures into store execution

· Ensure that weekly price changes and label updates are completed timely and accurately

· Manage and direct preventative maintenance and repairs in order to maximize and protect all physical assets (i.e. building, fixtures and equipment)

· Visit competition to be familiar with what they are doing

· Perform all other duties as assigned

· Assist to ensure forklift operations and receiving is completed in a safe and efficient way

· Responsible for maintenance of back stock levels

· Assist to ensure that cycle counts and negative on hand reports are completed timely and accurately

· Assist in ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure in-stocks and store profitability

· Assist with merchandise resets throughout the store

· Assist to ensure all signage is current in the store

· Assist in presenting a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and promotional and incremental merchandising

· Manage all aspects of store operations in the absence of the Store Manager

· Lead by example; be approachable by all associates and customers

· Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to the General Manager for follow up

Education & Experience:

· High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.

· Excellent customer service abilities with proven negotiation skills.

· 2-5 years of retail or hardware experience.

· Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

· Works well under pressure and deadlines; ability to multitask.

· Strong leadership and management skills with ability to motivate staff.

Balancing, Climbing, Crouching, Hearing, Kneeling, Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Reaching, Repetitive Motion, Seeing, Sitting, Standing, Stooping, Talking, Typing, Visual Acuity, Walking. Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds at times.

Work Environment: (Indoor/Outdoor/Heat/Cold)

Travel: Travel to deliver customer orders to their homes/businesses
